Title: Excel/ VBA Developer


The Excel/ VBA Developer is a member of the support group responsible for providing critical enhancements that improve the efficiency and effectiveness of existing management and operational reports within Control & Administration North America  groups. This group is comprised of multiple teams, including Back Office, Middle Office, Process Support, Credit Ops and Contract Administration. These teams provide the support and control functions for physical and financial trading of Natural Gas, LNG, Crude Oil and Refined Products. 


Support is the first line of support for user issues, providing training, user support and the interface between IT and the Business, ensuring clear communication is provided in both directions.  The group acts as the owner of the ETRM system, and interfaces to all corporate systems, and is involved in all projects impacting these areas.


Job Duties:

The Excel/ VBA Developer is the team member responsible for identifying and implementing enhancements that improve the efficiency and effectiveness to existing management and operational reports which are based on MS Office on the front-end  and Allegro on the back-end.  The team member will be provided with a prioritized list of reports from the teams where improvements are needed. A project management plan will be developed to serve as the roadmap, with a work breakdown structure and milestones, to ensure successful deliverables.

  • Streamline for faster report generation and distribution
  • Improve accuracy and quality of data
  • Simplify and standardize for quicker review by recipients
  • Reduce lead time and dependence on manual processes
  • Properly sequence activities, if necessary
  • Optimize data capture from ETRM system
  • Refine recipient list with report owner as necessary
  • Strengthen controls and auditability of reports

The Excel/ VBA Developer will have the following additional responsibilities:

  • Define functional requirement details of report enhancements
  • Review with and obtain sign-off of design documents from stakeholders
  • Coordinate the preparation of test cases in collaboration with key users
  • Identify process impacts and coordinate with Support team and users for analysis and action plan
  • Provide training to Support team and key users
  • Coordinate and promote the Change Management strategy among users
  • Document desk procedures related to report enhancements implemented

Required Qualifications:

  • The legal authorization to work in the US for anyone other than current employer.
  • Expert knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Access, Power Point, Outlook, Word) and high level capability working with SQL and Excel, including VBA coding.

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Bachelors in STEM field
  • Experience using Allegro or other ETRM systems, such as OpenLink Endur, for multiple energy commodities.
  • Working knowledge of the Allegro ETRM system.
  • Experience utilizing project management principles.
  • Solid understanding of deal entry, scheduling, hedging, risk and management reporting, credit operations, confirmations, clearing administration, month-end accruals, settlements, payment & collection, and internal policy compliance.
  • Solid experience with Front to Back energy trading internal controls, familiarity with process design/ documentation, process testing/ audit, and process improvements; Ability to identify and understand various risks and then design and implement relevant processes/ controls to mitigate.
