Tax Lead / Sr. Tax Analyst 


Job Summary / Purpose

The Tax Analyst will be responsible for a broad spectrum of tax research, tax modeling, tax accounting/reporting, and controls of the tax processes for all entities. This individual will also interface with various departments, levels of management, shareholder representatives, consultants/professionals, as required and report directly to the Tax & Payables Supervisor. This role may also back up Tax & Payables Supervisor.


Essential Duties / Functions

  1. Responsible for federal income tax compliance
  2. Prepare partnership returns; Coordinate review and filing
  3. Maintain tax software and databases
  4. Reconcile members’ capital accounts
  5. Responsible for portion of consolidated Texas Franchise Tax and Louisiana income tax reporting
  6. Prepare property tax and abatement compliance (Texas), including TCEQ exemptions, as appropriate
  7. Coordinates tax compliance for sales and use tax with Supply Chain Management, Accounts Payable, and other functions as appropriate
  8. Research current and proposed tax regulations, model and analyze various tax implications or tax optimization scenarios on current and future business activities or special projects
  9. Review contracts/contractual language for tax impacts; suggest modifications to optimize tax positions as appropriate
  10. Coordinates and responds to tax audits; Resolves any subsequent tax matters
  11. Responsible for updating process guidelines and procedures related to job role
  12. Participates in unit internal assessments and in resolution of gaps
  13. Participates on teams for special projects


Minimum Requirements

Minimum education required of the position.

  • Minimum bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or tax
  • Master’s degree in taxation, accounting or MBA is a plus

Minimum experience required of the position.

  • 5+ years related tax research & reporting experience
  • Experience with partnership tax reporting, Texas Franchise, property taxes, sales/use taxation
  • Regulatory experience is a plus
  • CPA or comparable work experience at moderate-size or larger company preferred


Minimum knowledge, skills and abilities required of the position.

  • Knowledge of oil and gas industry tax research and reporting, including FERC
  • Strong leadership skills
  • Strong understanding of control principles
  • Excellent tax code research and interpretative skills; ability to analyze/model tax scenarios
  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent presentation skills
  • Demonstrates initiative and excellent time management skills
  • Ability to interface with multiple levels of management and other functions
  • Knowledge  of Texas sales and use taxes
  • Experience with PowerPlan/PowerTax
  • Experience with UltraTax or professional tax software
  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills


  • CPA or comparable work experience at moderate-size or larger company preferred
